I think what I found most bothersome about the original post was the "sky is falling" tone. Crackers and sysadmins are in a constant battle for superior technology. Advances on one side are met by countermeasures on the other side. Saying that any particular advance will end the war in favor of one side or the other is sort of like saying that optical lithography is dead because you can't print sub-wavelength features, and therefore Moore's Law is dead. (Desperately trying to drag the thread back on topic.)

BTW, I much prefer the term "cracker" for people who break into and otherwise attack other people's systems. The hackers I went to school with felt that anyone who couldn't think of anything more interesting to do with a computer than cracking was a total luser and unworthy of further notice.
