11:30AM ET Market remains mired in a slump as the buyers are few and far between today-- a point reflected in the dismal A/D line and the relatively light volume at the NYSE and Nasdaq... The selling bias, though, is evident in the ratio of down volume to up volume at the Nasdaq, which is 16-to-1, and at the NYSE, where it is 4-to-1... Those sectors holding up the best-- but which are not overwhelmingly strong mind you-- are the ones that are typically considered to be defensive-oriented (i.e. drug, drug store, gold, waste management, alcohol and food)...
