Scumbria,
Since I download a lot and move files from computer to computer I get viruses from time to time.
Sometimes I don't even know it for a while. Then the system starts locking up. Run a scan and there it is. Often cleaning it isn't enough, total reinstall with delection of all partitions and boot sector as a precaution is what I do. Funny thing is that when a I do that, all the problems dissappear.
Then there are the Windows bloatware problems. For example, Windows media player can conflict with a number of other programs. EZ CD Creator for one. Having two burning programs can cause conflicts. Even unistalling one won't fix it. It's back to format/reinstall.
Won't even mention certain Viruscan programs that cause page faults...or what websites want to stick on your computer...ever heard of Bonzibaby?

If it's not much problem, a format/restore or reinstall may help.
