"As long are there are ILECs there will never be broadband."

elmatador and thread- I just read an editorial piece based on the thoughts of Tom Nolle. He believes (as I do) congress needs to give the ILECs an INCENTIVE to deploy broadband instead of the current DISINCENTIVEs of the 96 Telecom Act. As I thought, apparently Tauzin's bill (currently in congress) agrees with this idea.

Let's give up the idea government can create companies with rules and regulations. Instead, promote what's already out there. We have a 100 year old twisted pair plant and 50 year old cable plant. Let's give these guys whatever they need to get broadband to every home/business in America.

After Tom's speech, former FCC chief Kennard was irrate. Which I expected him to be. Kennard and congress have to wake up one day and get off the bashing of the bells as the ticket to broadband. If they don't stop--The bathroom wars, sweeping the COs, parking space wars, etc., will go on for years with no winners(except lawyers) and no broadband. -MikeM(From Florida)
