Sudan: Military spokesman says rebels claim of capturing nonexistent areas
Akhbar al-Yawm (Khartoum), June 13, p.1

Staff Lt-Gen Muhammad Bashir Sulayman, official spokesman of the armed forces, has dismissed the continuous claims by the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement.

The spokesman said the rebel Movement had developed a habit of announcing through some foreign media which support its acts that it has captured positions which have never been heard of except in its false statements issued to mystify facts and realities.

The spokesman was surprised at the rebels' announcement of victories in areas where the armed forces have no presence, if the areas exist at all.

The spokesman told Akhbar al-Yawm that the rebel Movement's objective during the recent aggression against areas in Bahr al-Ghazal had been completely foiled. He refuted the rebels' claims that the government was killing the civil population. He wondered who would kill, displace and torture innocent civilians apart from the rebel Movement with its recent attack on Raga and Daym Zubayr during this raining season, which means stability to the people in those areas.
