"We the people" is undeniably a phrase in the Constitution. And then the document goes on to establish a union of states. Remember, initially state legislatures picked US Senators and they also quite commonly selected Presidential electors. The states that initially formed the Union were independent nations at the time that occurred and considered that they were giving only limited power powers to the federal gov't (which doctrine the federal gov't has repeatedly and seriously breached.)

There is no prohibition against secession in the Constitution and had the states that formed it understood they could not get out, they never would have gone in.

I can see no real reason, under the Constitution, that a state cannot secede. You might have a case for those on land bought by the federal gov't (Louisiana Purchase, land bought at end of the Mexican War, Gadsen Purchase, Alaska), but that would not apply to the original thirteen states or Texas or Hawaii.
