Rudi, we just got our DSL up again and after scanning some of the posts here (there were over 400 so I skimmed)I'm so glad to see that you came through your surgery well and have even been posting! Can't keep a good gal down!

That damn Allison has cost Houston and the surrounding areas over 1.5 billion. Hard number for something that wasn't a hurricane. Our immediate family made it through without any property damage....we were very lucky......very blessed! Some of my family in Louisiana lost everything.

The city public works in our town, had the sense to widen and deepen the creek that runs through our little subdivision. If they hadn't, we would have lost it all too. Several subdivisions around our little town were flooded up to 10 feet in some places. I can tell you that at the meeting at the City Hall last night, there were some heated words and promises of investigations into the building or over building of our little town. For the record, we received 18 inches of rain....Houston got 35 inches.....can't even fathom that much water....

The Houston Medical Center lost power to three hospitals. The back up generators that are suppost to help in a crisis were under 10 feet of water. The rain was falling faster than the pumps could pump it out. Herman hospital lost 3 years of research and 30,000 research animals. Two hospitals have reported 6 deaths each during the 36 hours it took them to evacuate all their patients to other hospitals. They said these people were critical and would have died anyway...........

Priceless sheet music and instruments at the Music Hall were destroyed by the flood waters. Ima Hoggs entire collection which dates back over some 200 years is all gone.
You'd think someone would have secured these priceless works in a vault or something....guess that would have been too easy huh?

The mosquitoes have arrived with a vengence. You can't even open your door without getting attacked. Mold is another problem. With so many houses that sustained flooding, the health department is telling people to be on the look out for deadly molds. I thought this was interesting as I wouldn't know what a deadly mold looked like if it came up and bit me on the arse.

We're leaving for a few days......there's much to do.....we were the lucky ones.
