Rich,
Please consider this. The most environmentally destructive sport is golf. I once lived on a pristine 800 acre piece of land adjacent to a State park. The owner sold the land and turned it into a golf course. On the property lived deer, turkey, fox, coyote, etc. Now they are all gone. Perhaps we should return all golf courses to there natural state. You can always play putt putt.
