Hi Alex, I am by no means an expert and quit looking once I got something to work. I actually use two different methods. The easiest is to enable sharing with full access on the windows 98 computer. You can then get files on or off the win98 computer from the win2k computer. Alternatively, you can set up the Win98 login as a user on the Win2k computer(control panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Local Users and Groups->users then Action->New User. After adding the user, set its group properties to user. Then you'll need to establish the share on the drive and set its access to either the group "User" or the specific login name. The login name and password used on the win98 machine must match exactly what you set the user up with on the win2k machine. As a benny you can dump netbeui under either approach. I have noticed no speed problems at all in accessingg files in either direction. Can't help on the printer except to say that I run all my shared printers from win2k. One on the parallel port (HP RX80i) and then an HP Ljet 4 with a built in Jetdirect card, an Epson 800N with the built in epson card, and an HP1000P connected to an external jet direct box by its parallel cable. Very speedy, and since Win2K can connect to TCP printers without any additional software, it's very clean. I have seen severe network slowdowns when HP Jetdirect software was installed on networked Win98 computers and the HP printer network was installed. I eliminated the problem by making sure I unchecked the box for it during the installation (it is checked by default). This was more than a year ago, though, and things may have changed. I have been running all printers from Win2k at home and work for quite a while so I can't say for sure how things are right now. Good luck, Steve
