Philips Semicon 25% lower guidance , also Charge On Top Of Announced Chgs

AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Royal Philips Electronics NV (PHG) Friday said it
expects sales of its Semiconductors business to be around 20%-25% lower in
the second quarter of 2001 compared with the first quarter.
This, as well as reducing inventories and increasing price erosion, will
lead to an operating loss of EUR175 million in the second quarter, Philips
said.
Philips said it will take a one-time pretax restructuring charge of about
EUR90 million for the transfer of a production line from Albuquerque to
Fishkill in the U.S. This charge is in addition to previously announced
charges of EUR350 million to address structurally underperforming
activities.
It also said it expects to reach a "strategic decision" later this month on
the future of the company's mobile-phone operations.
Philips is expected to spin-off those operations.
