I will be in Washington from September then off to Amsterdam for two years next spring. It's not just yardsticks - people in the Balkans (and many other cultures) lie all the time. It's considered common and acceptable; you are stupid if you don't lie to someone you look down on or want to con into believing something. If they are dumb enough to believe your lies that's their problem. I'm sure I could go to Sofia and get 12 different version of the health care contract story. The best answer would have a dozen qualifications and "we believe" phrases attached. That's how they do business here. We ain't in Kansas any more, or even western Europe. And India is no different.
