TDT, To your questions:
1.) S3 has over a 50% market share in its core PC graphics business. They are the dominant supplier. (I work for #2, ATI). I don't know the S3 share in non-graphics businesses.
2.) Evans & Sutherland does make graphics, but very seldom competes with S3/ATI. E&S is in a much higher price band, so we never compete for the same order. For example, S3 & ATI integrated 2D/3D/Video/MM graphics chips sell into the market at less than $30 per chip. E&S sells chip sets many times that price. Add-in boards based on S3/ATI level of technology sell from less than a $100, to maybe $500, depending on configuration. E&S boards run into the thousands of dollars. So, no real competition.
3.) Comparing the chipsets from Mitsubishi and S3 is easy. S3 sells tens of millions of graphics chips a year. Mitsubishi doesn't. There is no comparison between the two products. Mitsubushi has a spec shec and some prototypes. S3 dominates an industry.
4.) Market shares in mainstream PC business:
S3: 50-60%
Mitsubishi: ~0%
E&S: ~0%

Good luck TDT,

Ski
