No, but those hoarding a mix of Nasdaq stocks, especially if picked wisely, over the last 5, 10, 15 and 20 years have done much, much, much better than gold. Some sense is needed [such as not buying dot.coms at the peak with no earnings and no prospects]. But even if somebody just bought $1000 a month of random stocks, including dot.coms, over the past 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 100 years, they would now be wayyyyyy ahead of putting the same amount into gold [even if they tried to time their buys of gold to get market lows, which they'd not be able to do].

Even if they bought and stored all the elements, they'd do worse than stocks. Companies are producing assets whose products people like to buy and use.
