Energy producers along the Oregon-Washington border are hoping to harness the wind. Crews are constructing the world’s largest wind plant. The first shipment of windmill parts arrived from Denmark over the weekend, and shipments will continue every two weeks until October. By that time, there will be 450 windmills churning enough electricity to serve 70,000 families.

“We’re having an energy crisis in the northwest and how we meet our energy needs matters to the environment to the extent we can use clean energy resources like this wind project,” said Rachel Shimshak with Renewable Northwest Project. “We’ll be in much better shape and maintain our quality of life.” Crews are building the wind plant on private property and farm owners get paid for having the windmills on their land. The wind farm should be up and running by the end of the year.
