Shaw sorry I misunderstood, I work for a Major Telecommunicatons ILEC Myself. Broadband is a Big topic
with My employer also, the revenues are attractive and the learning curve is slopping alittle.
RBOC'S dont do new things well ....well ok some aspects of new they do great ( remember the JPC )( Joint Procurement Comm ) Man did they manage to drive the cost of XDSL equipment down even prior to deployment. WOW, I wish they would of put more money into training of field and customer service personnel. Now that would of been some well spent money . All XDSL providers have had problems deploying this product and I could go on for hours , after all we have all either had first hand experience with getting DSL installed, installing it, or read the MANY horror stories, all in all things are getting MUCH better for the RBOCS they now have the FCC working in their favor and it looks like they are not going to have to wholesale out their copper, well maybe , maybe not , it is looking better for them anyway and this gives the RBOCS ( what’s left of em )something they understand NO COMPETITION they love that arena
Westell is in a good position I feel they have alot of past experience with Telco's all the way from their WESCOM days. They use to sell alot of NIU's to most of the RBOC's. I remember seeing Westell Smart Jack 3100's on every T-1 install I did. That was years ago but my point is they Know Telco's.
As Far as Verizon/NYEX/Bell Atlantic Great customers Dangerous Partners. I have watch the Old Bell Atlantic Partner with and then drive companies to chap 11 and
could only feel that was their purpose. Just Look at NorthPoint ( OK ) .
Now as far as XDSL I do go back quite sometime, I was doing contract work for a couple years overseas and was involved in the installation and operation of some XDSL field trials . we used it for Network connections over copper worked great, we even ( and I believe it was MY Idea to try this ) pushed a HDSL over a line of sight Micro wave using some ATT 940 Mux equipment to support network connections, Now I am kinda proud of that one ( no one thought it would work ) But I heard it was working like a charm . The first time I saw or Heard of XDSL was in 1994 although it was being used quite a bit for T-1 Install's. It was not in the public eye and Pargain had alot of that space. New Zealand Telecom brought a T-1 into our equipment using HDSL over two pair copper it was un heard of at that time to push a T-1 that far about, 4 miles without repeaters, and well that’s where it started for me . Anyway I have managed to babble on , bottom line, DSL works believe me it works, I use it at home, and have seen what can be done with it , the biggest problems with DSL is The RBOC's and as soon as they know they can charge what they want and limit others from using their copper, things will heat up in the equipment space , I am looking to Westell to increase their CO side of this equation or their Transport Group as they refer to it . Higher Margins in the equipment and alot of follow on revenue once one's foot is in the door so to speak.
So Here's to Hopping for the best , and that’s about all you hear from me for the rest of the year.
