There were some foul-ups in this area in Diana's instance, which resulted in an excruciating few hours, which will haunt her family and friends for a long time to come.

Susie, thanks for sharing this. I am filled with passionate fury toward the traditional medical establishment and its too-often insensitive regard of patients in their final moments of life, and your experience only serves to fuel that anger.

We enlisted Hospice to aid with my mother's passing, and they assisted beautifully in every aspect of her care, including pain management. And we were fortunate to have doctors who affirmed that decision (she passed at home too). But in my consulting work with Hospitals and long-term care facilities I have seen too many instances of the type you describe.

There is no reason in this age of morphine pumps and other forms of self-directed pain management for anyone to die in such a manner as you describe.

(your note has encouraged me to bolster my work in this area...thanks)

Respectfully, TC
