Hi ahhaha,

A few clarifications if you don't mind. This is not my area of engineering and I have not had time to catch up on the details of the sector.

Wasn't CSCO pushing their own version called Tag switching and if so doesn't inter-operability become an issue for competitors like RSTN? If CSCO Tag Switching dominates it is tough for competitors to get foothold.

You mentioned VPN over GigE. Does the new GigE standard address the issue of provisioning? Most customers using a VPN have specific quality of services issues. Provisioning the bandwidth so that the carrier get the most utilization out of the channel seems to be the concern for the carriers. You can set aside a dedicated gigE channel for the customer, but it is more cost effective if you can provision the channel so that it gets shared by multiple customers who may require different levels of service and have different peak demand schedules.
