Wasn't CSCO pushing their own version called Tag switching and if so doesn't inter-operability become an issue for competitors like RSTN? If CSCO Tag Switching dominates it is tough for competitors to get foothold.

As far as I know CSCO was the first or first meaningfully to develop MPLS which is the successor of Tag Switching.

You mentioned VPN over GigE. Does the new GigE standard address the issue of provisioning?

This is a critical part of both RSTN and CSCO solutions.
