John & Intel Investors - Very possibly, the first Tualatin devices (0.13 micron Pentium IIIs - with Copper) may be announced as early as Tuesday of this week.

The first announcement would be the "server" versions with both 256K and 512K on board L2 cache - at speeds up to 1.13 GHz.

Looks like AMD's AthWiper eMPty may be a Dead Duck sooner than the Droids expected !

Tualatin to Come This Week? [6:08 pm] Rat

Our sources close to Intel reported some facts about the new Intel processors schedule for this summer:

19 June: This day will be a turning point for Pentium III. On this day Intel is going to announce its first CPU based on 0.13micron Tualatin core. However, the first Tualatin will be aimed at the server market only and is most likely to feature 256KB or 512KB L2 cache. The first Tualatin announced will work at 1.13GHz.

2 July: On this day Intel will add more members to its Pentium 4 (Willamette) family. There will be two "intermediate" models with 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz working frequencies. Also Intel will release desktop Celeron 900MHz and mobile Celeron 850MHz.

30 July: This date will indicate the coming of Tualatin processors into the mobile market. Intel will announce mobile Pentium III family based on 0.13micron technology core and featuring 512KB L2 cache. The working frequencies of the new models will lie in the interval from 866MHz to 1.13GHz. At the same time a new mobile integrated chipset to support these CPUs will be released: i830MP (aka Almador-M).

6 August: Intel will announce complete "Tualatinization". The company will launch Pentium III (Tualatin) family for desktops. There will be two processors with the working frequencies equal to 1.13GHz and 1.2GHz and featuring 512KB L2 cache.

Please take note that the info refers to the Central European market in the first place.

As we can see, Intel is going to launch all Tualatin processors aimed at all the markets. However, the most impatiently awaited desktop solutions will be launched only in the end of summer, as you can see. It is most likely caused by the relative rawness of the 0.13micron manufacturing technology that is why the yields are quite low. Therefore, Intel can’t guarantee that they will be shipping sufficient quantities of these CPUs. As for server and mobile Tualatin based processors, they will sell at a higher price than desktop solutions and will hardly be that demanded. By the end of the summer, Intel will take the risk to promise a Tualatin for everyone... :-)

Although, Intel may be just taking its time in order not to make desktop Tualatin stand in the way for Pentium 4.
