Re: Looks like AMD's AthWiper eMPty may be a Dead Duck sooner than the Droids expected!

Paul,

Athlon4 is already available at 1.2GHZ, and will be available at 1.4GHZ very soon.

Athlon4 has much higher IPC than coppermine and will probably maintain most of that lead unless there is a lot more to tualatin than has so far even been hinted at.

Athlon4 has a point to point MP bus that, while it seems to have delayed the release of the systems for a year, is also a more efficient architecture for SMP configurations - and that efficiency has been showing up in real world tests:

If you're not shocked, you should be. AMD's first try at the server market is without a doubt an incredible success, and we've only shown you one real world benchmark this far. A pair of Athlon MPs running at 1.2GHz on the 760MP are able to complete this 30 minute benchmark run in a little over 12 minutes; that's close to 20% faster than the Dual Xeon 1.7GHz system which happens to have over 50% more memory bandwidth.

The dual Athlon4 1.2GHZ system was closing in on twice the speed of the dual PIII system: 12.2 minutes vs. 22.6 minutes for the dual PIII 933s.

Even if Tualatin for SMP is at 1.53GHZ by Q3, Intel going to be losing server market share at a steadily increasing rate.

Take a good look at the performance numbers.
