PCCW LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL MANAGED DATA SOLUTIONS

Pacific Century Cyberworks (PCCW) (SEHK:0008) has boosted the reliability of its ATM and Frame Relay services by introducing end-to-end data transmission capabilities and a web-based reporting system.

International Managed Data Solution (IMDS) Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and IMDS Frame Relay are data communications services that consolidate multimedia traffic into a single end-to-end broadband digital network.

Since the managed solution is now fully-owned by PCCW, businesses have the flexibility to manage voice, video, and mission critical applications in a single contract, and monitor network information flow thanks to PCCW's web-based reporting system called International Data Reporting Service.

Web-reports generated by this service enable IT managers to observe and allocate bandwidth efficiently and respond quickly to any necessary network upgrades, thus substantially reducing spare capacity requirements.

Savings occur because customers can more efficiently re-allocate bandwidth between their international offices, the company said in a press statement.

Many companies currently maintain a network bandwidth over-capacity of 40 per cent or more. Depending on their size and operations, companies can realize savings of up to 30 per cent with the new PCCW suite of services.

Maximizing each other's data transmission merits when working together, IMDS ATM and IMDS Frame Relay are now wired to 60 countries.
