Lucent eyes large mainland 3G mobile market share 14:41 15-JUN-2001 ww5.e-finet.com US-based Lucent Technologies says it plans to expand its business within the growing mainland 3G market, the People's Daily reported. Earlier this year, Lucent had won the largest share in a China Unicom (0762-HK) contracts worth around US$1.45 billion with nine other international telecom firms in the construction of China Unicom's new mobile phone network. The company said that it would fully support China Unicom's in building its 3G networks, the senior vice-chairman of Lucent for international mobility segment Scott Erickson said. Lucent has signed agreement of over US$800 million with other Chinese counterparts in the supply for products in optical fiber cables, optical networks, wireless and data transmission. (End)
