(Photo: newscom.com ) The contracts call for Delphi to provide high quality sub-assemblies for top-of-the-line washer/dryer units and electronic modules for refrigerators. The contracts represent a significant breakthrough for Delphi as it expands into new markets, such as consumer appliances.
``This is a significant milestone for Delphi. We've worked hard to create awareness of our capabilities and we are very pleased to have this opportunity to demonstrate that our technology has applications for non-automotive customers,'' said Jim Spencer, president, Delphi Packard Electric Systems and vice president, Delphi.
``We're continuing to develop the consumer appliance industry as a potential market by gaining a better understanding of its technology needs. Earning this business demonstrates that we are capable of growing sales outside of the automotive industry by applying existing technology and manufacturing expertise to related markets.''
Delphi will manufacture the sub-assemblies in its Foley, Ala., facility. Products will be tested and shipped to the customer's manufacturing locations in North and Central America.
In March, Delphi announced the formation of a new markets business unit, demonstrating its commitment to growing its high-tech product sales, restructuring its portfolio and diversifying its customer base. Delphi is focusing on bringing products such as connection systems, switches and sensors to new markets including: agriculture & construction; communications; military & aerospace; and recreation.
