Lot, lot of food for thought in that article... First, let's debunk the Trotskyist skeleton in PM Jospin's closet:
Jospin was a member of the International Communist Party (OCI), a rather stodgy Trotskyist organization that even today holds high the banner of the phantom "Fourth International." Confronted with evidence that he might indeed be a Trotskyist "mole," Jospin deflected the question and instead said he was proud of his red past...
Actually, the whole Trotsky yarn was masterminded by Lionel Jospin HIMSELF together with his spin doctors... The French presidential election is nearing (May 2002) and Jospin still looks like a runner-up against Prez Jacques Chirac. Now, the snag is that France's far-left has become a serious political force since the last presidential ballot in 1995. Lutte Ouvrière and the Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire will join forces in the first election round. Moreover, Mrs Arlette Laguillier has already stated that her instructions for the second round will be to abstain from voting for either candidate (ie Chirac and Jospin). So, the point is that Jospin's left constituency is jeopardized by Laguillier and her anarchist/far-leftist followers. Consequently, Jospin is scrambling to make sure he'll pick up his full quota of votes on the left. Hence his alleged crypto-Trotkyist leanings get publicly exposed with the unspoken hope of boosting his credentials towards the far-left... The timing is excellent: first a bit of showboating on the Left and, in four months from now, a similar pretense on the Right...
