Buenos dias, Sr. Mark,

Thank you for the additional network help sources. I could not reach the Practically Networked site the first time you posted it. Today it comes right up in the browser window. I'll spend some time looking around there, and the about site.

I had already looked at most of the XP search results you posted. They look promising on the google page, but most are just telling what the features are and aren't, not how to accomplish something specific.

I woke up feeling more positive about the possibility of getting things working on XP again. Stepping away brings new perspective sometimes. Also gives time for mental absorption. There's no hurry. Win98 is working great. This XP beta thing is just for fun and education. I wanted a better operating system for my new computer, like 2000. But with MS trying to bring everybody together for a new standard, I thought I'd just start with Xp.

I believe there will be a new release soon that Microsoft will make available to me, and that the netbeui protocol has been reinserted. Apparently I'm not the only one unhappy about its omission. I'll probably wait till then. In the meantime I'll study the networking options.

i would imagine you will have an extra special tough time getting assistance due to the beta-ness of xp, don't you agree?

Yes, for me that's true. There's lots of discussion groups, but they're working at a higher computer knowledge level than I am. I did read on the XP private release group that the networking has been hit and miss. So my connection problems could be more that just the protocol mismatch. They're hoping these are cleared up by the next release.

maybe you can select an expert at allexperts.com and ask your winxp questions? (btw, i have not received a reply from the top-rated expert i queried on 6/14.

Sorry to hear that. After 3 days I think you can inform them that you haven't heard back. Maybe tough questions take longer. <g>

Esteban
