SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp. here today announced that it will delay another wafer fab project, this time a $3.5 billion plant in Israel, according to the Reuters new service.

Citing the slowdown in the chip industry, the company confirmed that it will put the fab on hold, the news service said. Earlier this year, Intel set plans to build a fab near its current plant in the southern city of Kiryat.

As reported, after a year and a half of negotiations, Israel's finance minister announced the government has agreed to grant Intel Corp. a 12.5% subsidy for a new wafer fab (see Feb. 5 story ).
