You are looking at a wrong chart. It shows how many $CAN one needs to buy 1 $US.

Hint: It shows more $CAN for the other North American piece of paper.

REVERSE the axis on the chart, please. Or turn it up side down.

On a positive note, I hope the $CAN drop is temporary. How low can Nortel go? ;-)))
What's the big deal about dropping $19,000,000,000? I am sure that Greespans/Feds of the world are standing by ready to pass more BURNABLE paper to a high-tech champion like NT. Chretien cared enough to reassure shareholders last week. I guess they did not listened and, OOOPS, another drop of ~14% (CAN$ 2.11). Not bad for a relatively quite day.

To confuse the optimistic note, the other dollar (AUS$) has been hovering around 1.90 for US$ 1.
