China's output of cars reached a record 59,700 units in April, up 20.3 per cent year on year, adding the first four-month total up to 210,200 units, 20.7 per cent more than the figure for the corresponding year-earlier period, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The main contributing factor to the record output is Shanghai Volkswagen, which sold 24,000 units in April.

BEIJING - The State Development Planning Commission has recently announced its decision to deregulate the prices of domestically made cars. This marks the end of years of government control over the prices of home made cars. Though considered as a belated decision, it has been described as "going with the tide of the day."
