Hmmm.... Funny... I can see them fine from my porch located within the beltway.

Not sure what part of N. Va you're located in, but it's a beautiful night where I'm at. But that was quite a rain storm we had this weekend, I agree.

Btw, those links were what were immediately available from my websearches on particular keywords. But in the end, global warming is VERY MUCH a political battle being waged between numerous scientific angles.

Personally, I think we're just at an inevitable peak in global temperatures and that mankind hasn't had any more impact than volcanic activity or methane hydrate releases from the ocean depths.
