I have heard some analysts believe that with a favourable settlement, MO stock could double or even triple.
I don't know if I am as bullish as that but, clearly MO deserves a better P/E multiple in today's market than it has. Especially when one considers that companies like KO are carrying P/Es of 44. I do not think that the recent price move discounts a settlement at all. Your question asks only for an opinion of course.
Short term and depending on what we see in the coming days, a settlement could generate a short term sell-off but, even if it does, I think in the ensueing weeks, we will see higher valuations.
A short term sell-off would only result, IMO, if the market believed that the negotiation results were about as the market expected. If they are more favourable to MO than that... watch out.
