IMHO the decline of network equipment stocks can be traced directly to the bush administration. Its no coincidence that they started tanking big time about the time the election was decided. Republican policy is to let the RBOCS operate as they like and unfortunately that means no urgency to allow high speed access to the internet to be ubiquitous. IF they don't make last mile investments then all the fiber that has been laid is useless. When competition has died we may see an upturn in spending but rates will be much higher than they should be. Imagine what AOL would look like today if it had been unable to let its customers hook up through phone lines. The conerstone of the new economy has been shattered by an administration that coddles incumbent big business at the cost of innovation and efficiency. If we all had high speed access the vision of direct marketing through the internet could be realized. Now what is delivered are magazine ads rather than tv ads. Not nearly as powerful.
