Buying Japan's TT DoCoMo is to boost its stake in KG Telecommunications, Taiwan's third biggest mobile operator by 6.92bn ( pounds 40m), paving the way to bring DoCoMo's latest mobile phone technology to Taiwan. DoCoMo already owns 20% of KG Telecom.

Going British Software producer Microsoft yesterday appointed Oliver Roll to the new role of UK marketing director. The move brings all of Microsoft's British marketing activities together.

Downloading Virgin yesterday confirmed plans for its V Shop outlets to offer digital downloading of music and computer games via online kiosks in its stores. V Shop, rebranded from the Our Price chain, is linking up with digital group Tornado to provide the service.

Refinancing Hong Kong telecom and internet firm Pacific Century CyberWorks has mandated Barclays, HSBC, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley to jointly issue a USDollars 2bn-3bn fixed rate bond, says debt market newsletter Basis Point. The transaction is a re-financing of the PCCW bridge loan associated with its aquisition of Cable & Wireless HKT last year. Morgan Stanley is the company's credit rating adviser, and a rating should be available in July.
