<<$36/mo (i think) for crappy telephone service (1 line),>>

How in the world do you do it?

I have 2-line crappy telephone service, and I can't get the bill below $100 per month. I was using what I thought was the closest ISP Earthlink connection earlier this year when my crappier @home cable service went to ZERO access for SIX WEEKS. Do you think any one at @home could find or even fix the problem? I had technicians out three times (had to schedule 2 weeks out each time) and they did nothing. The problem was external to my suburb. They had the WHOLE STATE OF ILLINOIS down for WEEKs, and they were very laid back about it too. They never told me what the problem was although I asked many times. And the cable providers in my area are arrogant too.

They keep adding area codes in the Chicago area (now 6+) and they have this stupid (but lucrative for them) 8 mile rule for local calls. The ISP connection turned out to be 9+ miles away and instead of 5 cents a call, it was 5 cents a MINUTE. And of course most of our friends are over 8 miles away (but less than 15). Of course I didn't know that until the bill came weeks later. Even now, with all the wiring charges, feature charges, several types of taxes, the bill is still three digits every month. Plus Cable, Plus @home.

I would sign up for this in a heartbeat, then sit back and smile while I watch the legacy providers wither.
