"AMD can't get "back into" a market that they were NEVER IN to begin with."

AMD has had embedded processors for a long while, for example, they have a line of 80186 processors that people actually used. The real boost came when Intel couldn't get the Polar chip to work right and cancelled it, AMD was the only choice then for x86 compatibility. Now true, most of the SC400 and related chips go into vertical market products, but there are a lot of handheld and tablet computers with AMD chips running DOS, Win9x and even NT.

As I noted, however, AMD doesn't have a really compelling product right now. It is unclear what the best way for them to approach the market right now, if they can.
