Neither of us showed examples of dramatic increases or decreases in the number of abortions
I guess you forgot about this disgusting demonstration of the benefits of illegal abortions...

"In 1967, Romanian dictator Nicolai Ceausescu came to power and reversed that country's policy of legal and safe abortion. Although the birth rate initially increased, by the 1980's, it had shrunk back down to the mid-60's level because underground abortion networks had mushroomed. The drive to increase births was not accompanied by any basic medical or social improvements. Countless mothers and babies died for lack of medical care, food, and maternity beds. The country was so embarrassed at its soaring maternal and infant mortality rates that it abandoned international standards for recording them. Over the course of 20 years, an estimated 10,000 women died needlessly from illegal abortions alone. Ceausescu's action led to his downfall (he was executed in 1989), and it resulted in thousands of abandoned and neglected children whose plight moved the world.
One of the succeeding government's first acts was to legalize abortion as an emergency health measure. International family planning agencies were invited to set up clinics in Romania, and they found that 40% of women of childbearing-age had reproductive tract damage left by illegal abortions. Continued economic chaos and lack of medical care means than Romania has a very high abortion rate even today, about 1.3 million for every half-million live births. Even so, almost 2,000 babies were abandoned at maternity hospitals in 1994. Countless thousands of children still languish today in orphanages, in squalid conditions, and another 10,000 wander the streets of Romanian cities, homeless. School enrollment has dropped by 21% since 1992 and over 400,000 children have quit school since 1992. About 2,500 Romanian kids are HIV positive, more than the combined total of all Western Europe. And dozens of pedophiles from Western Europe travel regularly to Romania because of its reputation as a country where children are desperate and vulnerable.
Given these deplorable conditions, it will probably take Romania several generations before it can hope to heal the human misery caused by Ceausescu's brutal policy against abortion and contraception. This country serves as a malignant example of the uncivilized consequences of so-called "pro-life" policies."
it also is likely true that there is a statistical correlation between countries with contraception and the color blue
That may be true, but blue flags don't generally kill mothers, and are not a concern of public health. Apparently, countries where abortions are illegal are no safer for fetuses, but are much more dangerous for mothers. This is obvious to anyone. It is a simple statement of FACT. Nothing is being inferred. FACT. You can make up the reason "WHY."
I suspect that they put it in/keep it in because they are trying to support a pro-choice argument
And I suspect they put it in because they were accurately reporting the reported numbers, and that these reported numbers happen to show that making abortions illegal DOES NOT appear to correlate to a decreased incidence of abortions. And THAT is pretty DAMN Significant, and pretty DAMN suggestive.
But I don't think your orignal statement was a quote. You didn't say "This site says 'what is known is..", you apparently drew a conclution that it is known based on the information on the site
I have checked back and you are correct: I did not put quotation marks around it. I understand that this is the sole cause of your bewilderment and confusion and I offer you my most deepest regrets for having inadvertently caused you to land in such a muddle. It was, however, directly off of a statistical chart, and it was as I have presented it.
You also say "The highest abortion rates in the world are in ILLEGAL abortion countries." Which is apparently not true....
I believe that it is true.
The answer atleast in my case and I submit in most others is E: None of the above. More specifically it is to reduce abortion, and protect what they see as the rights of the child.
That would be "C" then, not E. I covered it in my list.
IMO the number of people who want to make abortion illegal for the specific purposes of "A). To kill and hurt more women", or "B). To make sure that abortions take place at least as frequently as in those countries where abortion is legal", closely aproaches zero.
Thank you. THis was the elimination I wished for. It leaves C, and you have finally explained that the goal of keeping abortions illegal is to,
1). Reduce abortion, and
2). protect what they see as the rights of the child.
You can't be serious. Look at the beginning of this post to see what making abortions illegal did to protect children's rights in Romania. And look what it did to reduce abortions??!!
What evidence do you have that making abortions illegal reduces them?? What evidence do you have that making abortions illegal protects the rights of children?? The statistics seem to show that the rate of abortions overall is not significantly different between developed and developing countries (developed countries are legal abortions)??
78,000 women die from illegal abortions every year. Does that fact touch your heart in any way? Would it make a difference to you if the "woman" was a friend or a family member? Did you know that worldwide, the lifetime average is 1 abortion per woman?? Did you know that 46,000,000 womaen have abortions every year. Woman have always had abortions regardless of their legality. Do you think that 46,000,000 woman should be forced to have "unsafe" abortions?? |
