<OT> Hi Brookelise ! About my garden , ah you've captured my heart by asking,
Thanx !!!

My newest twist ( tried it out on the corn ) was to take single sheets of old news
paper and use them for mulch. I lay them down between the rows and with a hoe
plop a little dirt on top of the sheets then wet them in.
Sure helps with the weeds and the paper decomposes enough that it can latter
be tilled right into the soil for the next planting.

I had two stands of corn about a month apart ( the first is in the freezer
& the second stand is almost ready , I pulled 6 ears of it yesterday..cooked em
as soon as I came in the house and we finished them off this eve with some
French onion soup , ( CockoVan ) I think they call it.
Chicken & Onions cooked in a very light wine , with plenty of garlic.
----------------------

I already have all the yellow squash I can use this winter frozen , so I'm making
squash eaters out of my neighbors. I didn't put out as much okra this year as
last but it's still making giant stalks ( last year it was so tall
I made the front page of the local rag ) in about another month I'll send em
a new picture.
---------------------

I have stringless string beans this year and my second crop is coming up.
( I'm now letting the first batch go to seed )
My tomatoes peaked about 10 days ago , and I've got some new plants
in a shady place ( last summer it got so hot I ran out of tomatoes by mid August
( heat killed em all ) and I didn't get any more until late Nov..I hope to avoid that
gap this year.

By chance I bought ONE special super bush ,( most I start from seed )..
well that special really impressed me with loads of huge tomatoes, meaty and super
sweet & very few seeds in them . ( I'm harvesting the seeds and already
have 18 more of them started & I'm almost ready to transplant em ( as soon as I pull that
second stand of corn this weekend.)
------------
My Watermelons are bringing up the rear , looks like I'll have to wait another
2 weeks to get any..( that rain did in most of the bigger ones , it was to much
and gave them end rot , I've culled them out and have about 20 that look Ok,
the vines survived and are putting on more buds.

Some pictures are attached to a small web page I just put up .

PS
Frozen tomatoes can be juiced or used in cooking and they beat the hell
out of canned ones.
I need a bigger freezer..& I never would have believed that would happen
with the kids gone.
