Jim, nice work on the garden. I am jealous of your corn. Up here in the north country, we hope and pray for knee high by the 4th of July (yes, it's sad, I know -gg-). Always had trouble with cukes and melons, the darn hills dry up too fast.

RE: newspaper, my mom is a mulcher and composter. Swears by the newspaper trick too. You have it down sir.
