-Indianapolis-based Brightpoint and Nokia Enter Into Letter of Intent for Distribution of Nokia Original Accessories
IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2001-- In a move designed to improve the flow of products and information to customers while providing additional operational flexibility, Nokia (NYSE:NOK - news) today announced it has entered into a letter of intent to outsource all Nokia Original Accessory distribution and logistics services for the US and Latin America to Brightpoint, Inc. (Nasdaq:CELL - news).

Brightpoint is a leading provider of outsourced services in the global wireless telecommunications and data industry. Pending the execution of a definitive agreement, full transition of accessory distribution and logistics services to Brightpoint is scheduled to be complete by the end of fourth quarter 2001.

With current Nokia representatives continuing to handle sales, pricing, order entry functions and return authorizations, all customer interfaces will remain unchanged. Additionally, the research and development operations, quality, and manufacturing operations of Nokia Original Accessories will not be affected by this agreement.

Pekka Vartiainen, Nokia's Senior Vice President of Sales, US, said that customers would benefit as a result of the new process. ``Brightpoint's extensive experience in the wireless industry made them a competitive choice for this project. The resulting effect for our customers will be custom packing programs and direct to store and direct to customer shipments.''

``We are very pleased to expand our long-term relationship with Nokia,'' stated J. Mark Howell, President of Brightpoint. ``Nokia's leading market position and brand recognition coupled with our logistics expertise will provide Nokia's customers with an efficient supply chain for Nokia Original Accessories.''

Nokia and Brightpoint have enjoyed a relationship since the early 1990's, and have worked together to distribute Nokia products not only in the United States, but have also signed agreements to distribute products in the Asia Pacific region and Europe as well.
