newsalert.com Systems Receives Order for 50 Optical Wireless Links from Red5 in Mexico Jump to first matched term
- First order from Red5 for 50 WaveBridge 500 Series links
- WaveBridge products pass certification in Mexico
OTTAWA, Canada, June 19 /PRNewswire/ - (OTC BB: LANPF, TSE: LAN) - Plaintree Systems Inc. (Plaintree), a developer and manufacturer of optical wireless products, today announced it has received a purchase order for 50 units of WaveBridge 500 Series optical wireless links from Red5, a Latin American telecommunications equipment supplier. Five links will be delivered immediately with the remaining links, to be delivered by December 31, 2001. Plaintree signed a VAR agreement with Red5 on May 15, 2001 of this year. Red5 has also informed Plaintree that the WaveBridge product has passed safety certification in Mexico.
"We knew there would be an excellent market for Plaintree's links when we saw how well they worked in field evaluations," said Sergio Murillo, President of Red5 Inc., "and now that we have certification, we can actively pursue the Telco carriers and ISPs (Internet Service Providers)."
Plaintree's WaveBridge optical wireless links using Class 1, eye-safe LED (Light Emitting Diodes) technology can be installed in a matter of hours. Unlike microwave and RF (radio frequency) systems they do not require licensing nor do they experience the problems of RF frequency interference or overlap. One example is that cellular companies (telcos) can use the WaveBridge links to connect their Base Station to a series of cellular phone towers (micro-cells) thus expanding their network while avoiding interference problems and the expense of laying cable or fiber.
"As Plaintree's America sales team travels Mexico and South America, we are learning that the potential for our product far exceeds our original expectations," said David Watson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plaintree, "because the RF spectrum in all urban areas is, or is close to, saturation. Optical Wireless is their only alternative".
