If you have seen the press release of June 20, 2001 you cannot help but notice that Security Biometrics Inc. is on an upward advance in its acquisition of NetFace LLC, which will be held as a wholly owned subsidiary. See: sigbio.com
With the successful completion of this initial acquisition of NetFace LLC, Security Biometrics now possesses a complete array of technology products to service the biometric universe as it specifically relates to Gesture Recognition Technology. We have now expanded our market place to include video gaming and interactive television which now permits Security Biometrics entry in to the entire world-wide market of human to machine interface.
NetFace holds the option-to-license DSI Datotech's (www.dato.com) proprietary biometric interface technology for the world-wide video gaming and Internet/interactive television set-top box marketplace. DSI has produced for NetFace fully functional units of this technology and has partnered with them to aggressively market this product. With this license, which is now property of the new combined Company, comes the right of first refusal to license all DSI's existing and future technologies (excluding PC input.)
NetFace was the first company to license DSI Datotech's technology for commercial application. In NetFace's case, it was for the video gaming and Internet / Interactive television set-top box market. DSI has completed functioning units for this market, and together, NetFace and DSI have begun to aggressively market this technology to these industries.
Many mergers seem to lack the synergy that would justify the effort, and at first blush one would wonder about this one. One could ask, "What do video games and ATMs have in common?" However there are at least two important considerations that motivated Security Biometrics.
NetFace has functional units of DSI Datotech's Gesture Recognition Technology (GRT) that can perform biometric identification with only software modifications. This fast-tracks Security Biometrics' ability to present this technology to the financial community.
More importantly, NetFace has (coupled to the exercise of the license) the "right of first refusal" on the development of existing and future GRT technologies for other markets outside of PC interface. While sales of PCs seem to be stagnating, the need for man-to-machine interfaces (MMI) that are simple, natural and efficient is on the verge of a revolution. Security Biometrics wants to ensure that it is positioned to ride the crest of that opportunity.
