OPEC report: 2001 world oil demand revised down to 76.83 mln bpd London, June 20 (BridgeNews) - In its current monthly oil market report OPEC said it has once again revised down its forecast of world oil demand for 2001. World consumption of petroleum is now estimated to rise by 1.06 million barrels per day or 1.4% to average 76.83 million barrels per day, said OPEC. Demand is projected to rise by 430,000 bpd in the OECD and by 480,000 bpd in developing countries, with the remaining 150,000 bpd increase seen in the other regions. (Story .17580)
INSG reports 7800-tonne implied nickel market surplus in April London, June 20 (BridgeNews) - The nickel market recorded an implied production-consumption surplus of 7800 tonnes in April, compared with a 6100-tonne surplus in March and a 2600-tonne deficit in April 2000, according to provisional figures released Wednesday by the International Nickel Study Group. Russian Norilsk Q2 nickel export 20,000 tns vs 52,000 tns in Q1 Moscow, June 20 (BridgeNews) - Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel lowered nickel exports in April-June to 20,000 tonnes, down from 52,000 tonnes in January-March, Deputy General Manager Dmitry Zelenin said Wednesday. The exports of platinum group metals (PGM) in April-June was worth $680 million, up from $600 million in January-March. Due to a fall in world prices for the metals and appreciation of the ruble, Norilsk's net profit in January-March fell 25% on the year to $511 million, while sales revenues were up 5% on the year to $1.3 billion. Zelenin said Norilsk expected the 2001 net profit to decline some 30% on the year after a 84% increase in 2000. ( Story .12979 )
Refined zinc output halted at Peru refinery; strike continues New York, June 20 (BridgeNews) - Production of refined zinc is still halted at Peru's Cajamarquilla zinc refinery as unionized workers have been on strike since Monday over a wage dispute with management, a company spokeswoman said.
