Transmeta reiterates Q2 revenue guidance
TOKYO, June 13 (Reuters) - Transmeta Corp co-founder and vice chairman Dave Ditzel on Wednesday reiterated his company's view that revenues in the second quarter would be near or slightly higher than the first-quarter figure.

The microprocessor design company reported first-quarter revenues of $18.6 million.

``A lot of people are being cautious,'' he said of the current climate in the chip market, which has been hit hard since the end of last year by a sudden slowdown in demand for high-tech goods such as personal computers and cellphones.

``Having shorter lead times in terms of orders, we can't give any guidance that's any better or worse than that,'' he said. ``With a lack of visibility we can't advise otherwise.''

....and today:

``We have achieved new design wins this quarter with key companies in our target markets including Toshiba, Sharp and RLX, and we've seen continued introductions of Crusoe-based notebooks into the U.S. and Europe. However, we are also seeing reductions in unit volume shipments to major customers this quarter,'' said Mark K. Allen, President and CEO of Transmeta. ``Our business is presently based primarily in Japan, which now appears to be experiencing the economic weakness that affected other parts of the world earlier this year. Accordingly, we are decreasing our revenue expectation for the second quarter of 2001 by 40-45 percent compared with our revenue of $18.6 million for the first quarter of 2001.''
