Today Calpine and Bechtel have announced that the California Energy Commission (CEC)(apparently a subcommittee of the CEC presided over 2 years of public hearings over the application), recommends approval of the Metcalf Energy Center. All five members of the CEC will consider the plan in August (after a one month public comment period). Construction is estimated to take 24 months. Who is the CEC? According to their website, They are the primary energy policy and planning agency in the State
