Wow, a lot of new 52 week lows in the last 2 days.

Something is up. The internet sector is finally seeing interest. The AOL guidance of the bottoming in pricing is part of the catalyst. But, the strength looks wider than that. RNW announce new copy right protection software also helping the sector.

**********************

A plethora of negative developments set the stage for a firmly negative start to the day. This included several after hours warnings from: TER (-8.25), TLAB (-24.3%), JBL (-4.9%) and IFX (-14.9%). Also, several firms on the Street slashed estimates/price targets and downgraded a number of issues in the PC, chip, storage and comm IC sectors. Although this led to a bearish bias in early dealings, the indices put together a solid morning turnaround that appeared to be aided by a wave of profit taking in the wake of the recent seven session losing streak. It was difficult to get a handle on today's schizophrenic action. However, the key semiconductor and networking sectors found a floor in afternoon trade and the software, biotech and Internet (boosted by AOL comment that ad revenue is stabilizing) sectors injected some life into the market. This was accompanied by further waves of short covering and technically related buying which all contributed to a rally for the Nasdaq into the close. While the Dow could not extend the move during the last half hour, its performance was encouraging as it once again closed above its 200 day moving average. A case can be made for the rally to develop into a more impressive turn given that the Fed is locked in for another rate cut next week and the warnings season is winding down but it will take follow through beyond the 2077 and 2100 resistance in the Nasdaq to bolster this outlook.
