Re: With the Intel machine rolling along, firing on all cylinders

<LOL!>

Rambus forever!

Let's see which company has a profit this quarter, and which one has a loss.

Intel is making P3's at their newest factory - there are big writeoffs coming to cover the shuttering of existing plant.

By the way, did you know that P4 doesn't support Oracle for a standard client install? You have to copy the entire installation CD to the hard drive, then edit a file or the install bombs. Not a big deal to do (once you've figured out that P4 craps out on some very standard software) but still pretty annoying. Corporate buyers love stuff like that. No such problem with any AMD chip.

I see Oracle bugs filed against Pentium 4 machines, even for Oracle 8.1.7. You may not be able to avoid the problems by upgrading to a newer version of Oracle client. See, in particular, Metalink note 131299.1 - Oracle Installer 8.1.X Hangs on Machines with Pentium 4 Processors.
