I think for people confined to their homes, because of disability or something else, SI and places like it are probably a good alternative to real human contact. But it isn't the same as real human contact, and having a real life. I started here on SI because I had 3 small children and felt isolated. But my children are all in school now, and so am I.

I wish everyone could get a life, but I know some people can't. Some people are bitter and angry, and confuse acting out with wit, and bile with humor. They can't do that in 3d so they have to be on the internet. Some people obviously are married to spouses they can't stand, or have lives that are destroying them, but they don't have the courage to fix things or start over. So they come here. Some people are too unattractive or socially inept to get lives. And some people have failed repeatedly at life. No wonder they want to make fun of other people.
