Singapore IDA:Telstra-PCCW JV Applies For Telecom License Updated: Thursday, June 21, 2001 05:31 AM ET
SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Reach Ltd., the 50-50 Internet backbone joint venture between Australia's Telstra Corp. (TLS, news, msgs) and Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. (PCW, news, msgs), has applied for a facilities-based operator license in Singapore, said Singapore's Infocomm Development Authority.
"We are processing it (the application)," said Dulcie Chan, a spokeswoman at IDA, the island-republic's telecommunications industry regulator.
However, Chan said she isn't clear when an approval can be expected.
According to Chan, the facilities-based operator license is meant for telecommunications operators who intend to "deploy any form of telecom networks, systems, and facilities to offer telecom switching and/or transmission capacity and/or telecom services."
The IDA has so far issued 29 such licenses, she said.
