I was at Bio 97, I live in Houston and work at a biotech. There is so much enthusiasm in biotech, and frankly, so much to be enthusiastic about that I find it difficult to understand Wall Streets current negative attitude.

The Houston Biotech industry has been littered with failed companies and negative stories. Like the other regions, however, there are many biotechs on the virge of their first approval. At Bio 97, a number of Houston companies exhibited. Houston (and the Woodlands) is home to the following biotechs:

Zonagen
GeneMedicine
Texas Biotechnology
Aronex
Lexicon Genetics
Introgen

All of these companies have had positive stories or trial results or partnerships announced in the last year. Being a contrarian, though, if Wall Street doesnt like it, now is the time to buy! I believe that the positive results of the next year or two will really turn around the outlook for the industry, which should reflect itself in big gains for people who are willing to take the chance now. TXB is likely to be such a stock as an example!
