That would be true for amd too if amd would make only desktop chips for retail (21% would be enough) but amd makes athlon 4 and mp as well and hence needs to gain laptop and commercial market share....


Those are both issues for the success of each company. Of course AMD is going to try to get into Intel's more profitable businesses, and of course Intel is going to play to it's strong suit, process technology and manufacturing scale.

A point or two of market share is great for bragging rights, but doesn't mean s--t in a declining market.
In the end both stocks will begin to move up when there is a hint that end user demand is starting to increase. That will be a good day for holders of both AMD and Intel.

When do you think that will happen?
