PW, Mr Mark and Pete,

Thanks for the suggestions; I was finally able to get the system up and running again with your help. I really do appreciate all the assistance.

I might be pushing my luck a bit but here is another problem that I am having; in fact, it is what got me into the situation where I found myself reinstalling windows in the first place at the suggestion of Microsoft's technical people. We were attempting to install Flight Simulator 2000 and kept getting a message

"Set-up was unable to extract files from D:\game.cab. This is most likely caused by insufficient memory to swap files or a corrupted file. Please restart your computer and try again".

I have lots of memory and hard drive space (15 gig to spare) and repeated attempts to restart and install the program have failed. I am at a loss as to what else to do. The program does install without any problem in another computer - so it appears that it is something unique to the computer which is having the problem. However, it seems to be the only program that is presenting a problem when it comes to installation in this computer.

I have closed all programs prior to trying to install it and it still comes up with the same message. I would appreciate any suggestions to get around this.
